When Deja arrives at school, she notices that something is wrong. The teachers are all gathered in the hallway, looking worried. Deja asks her teacher what is going on, but her teacher doesn't answer. Instead, she tells Deja to go to her classroom and wait for further instructions.
Deja goes to her classroom and sits down at her desk. She looks out the window and sees that the sky is filled with smoke. She also sees two tall buildings on fire. Deja doesn't know what is happening, but she is scared.
A few minutes later, Deja's teacher comes into the classroom and tells the students that there has been a terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. The teacher tells the students that they need to stay calm and follow her instructions.
The teacher leads the students out of the classroom and into the hallway. The students are all scared and confused. They don't know what is happening or what to do.
The teacher leads the students outside and into the schoolyard. The students are relieved to be outside, but they are still scared. They watch as the smoke and flames billow from the World Trade Center.
The students stay in the schoolyard for several hours. They watch as the towers collapse and as the smoke and flames fill the sky. The students are horrified by what they see.
Eventually, the students are allowed to go home. Deja walks home with her mother and her little brother. Deja is still scared and confused, but she is also grateful to be alive.
Towers Falling is a heartbreaking and hopeful novel that tells the story of a young girl who witnesses one of the most tragic events in American history. The novel is a reminder of the importance of hope and resilience, even in the face of tragedy.
